A “landmark” social housing development in Seven Kings (Redbridge) is set to welcome tenants at the beginning of December as part of an ambitious, home building programme led by Major Housing Association.
The fifty-eight new social rent homes, developed in partnership with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Redbridge Council, will provide vital affordable accommodation to residents on the local borough’s housing waiting list.
Major Housing Association have confirmed that final internal works have been completed at the site and tenants are now expected to be welcomed into their new homes in December.

John Swinney, chief executive of Major Housing Association, said:
“This is a landmark moment for Major Housing Association: we are extremely pleased that despite the incredibly tough climate for the construction industry, our housing scheme at Seven Kings is now nearing completion, on time and on budget.
“The fifty eight, high quality, social rent homes will play an important part in helping to address local housing need in Redbridge.
“These new homes, built to the highest buildings and sustainability standards, will change the lives of at need local households. The individuals and families moving into the new homes will be given a fresh start in genuinely affordable accommodation that will also allow them to maintain their local connections to their community.”
“As a new developer, this is an important milestone in Major Housing Association expanding housing programme. We have some 600 homes in our pipeline spread across East London, notably Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham and all supported by GLA grant.
“We are very much one of the new players in the development sector and are already making a big impact.
“Innovation is at the heart of our approach. At Seven Kings we have achieved EPC A for 75% of the homes. Our next project at Church Elm Lane in Barking and Dagenham which has 91 homes will achieve 100% EPC A.
“I do want to thank our partners, the GLA and Redbridge Council, who have been fundamental in driving forward this important Seven Kings social rent project.”
The site is located at 593 High Road, Seven Kings: the housing scheme includes 6 studio flats, 25 one bedroom homes and 27 two bedroom homes. It has received around £6 million of GLA grant.
The homes will be powered by clean, green energy, with heating costs kept low for tenants by high levels of insultation and innovative air source heat pumps. Overall 75% of the homes will achieve EPC A with the remainder at EPC B.
