Access to information (STAIRs)

What is STAIRs?

The Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs) is a government scheme that gives social housing residents the right to see information about how their home and services are managed. It works in a similar way to the Freedom of Information rights that council tenants already have.

As a registered provider of social housing, we’re committed to being open about how we’re run and how we look after your home. This page brings that information together in one place. We add to it over time — if something isn’t here yet, please contact us and we’ll help.

Asking us for information

From 1 April 2027, if you’re one of our tenants — or someone acting on your behalf — you’ll be able to ask us for information that isn’t already on this page, and we’ll reply within 30 calendar days. You don’t have to wait until then — if there’s something you’d like to see now, contact us at info@majorhousingassociation.uk or 020 7100 7676.

If you think something is missing

If you think something is missing

We add to this page over time. If you’re a tenant and you believe information that should be here is missing, please tell us. We’ll look into it and reply within 30 calendar days. If you’re not happy with our response, you can raise it through our complaints process and, if you’re still unhappy, contact the Housing Ombudsman Service.

Information we may not be able to share

Information we may not be able to share

We want to be as open as we can, but some things we can’t publish or share — for example information that would identify individuals (personal data), commercially sensitive information, anything confidential or legally privileged, anything that could affect someone’s safety, and information already available elsewhere. We may also be unable to help with requests that would take a disproportionate amount of time, or that are repeated or unreasonable. Where we can’t share something, we’ll explain why.

Need this in another format?

If you’d find this information easier to use in large print, another language or another format, just ask — we’ll provide it free of charge. Contact us at info@majorhousingassociation.uk or 020 7100 7676.
